Microsoft Azure Propels Digital Transformation in Healthcare

In a groundbreaking move for digital transformation, Microsoft Azure has announced the launch of Azure Large Instances. This initiative allows healthcare providers such as Mount Sinai Health System to manage expansive electronic health record (EHR) databases, including up to 50 million database accesses per second. The solution aims to redefine scalability, flexibility, and innovation in the healthcare industry.

Scaling Beyond Traditional Limits with Microsoft Azure

“We are very excited about this move as it further enables digital transformation, accelerates artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation, provides scalability and flexibility, and reduces upfront infrastructure costs, ultimately leading to improved care and discovery as well as streamlined operations,” said Kristin Myers, executive vice president at Mount Sinai.

Collaboration with Accenture: The Largest Epic Production

Mount Sinai, in partnership with Accenture, now operates the largest Epic production instance running on Azure Large Instances in the world. The collaboration embodies the potential of Microsoft Azure to push the boundaries of healthcare technology.

Microsoft Azure: Empowering the Healthcare Industry

“Our mission is to empower the healthcare industry to achieve more, helping to deliver the best experiences for providers and patients,” said Tom McGuinness, corporate vice president, global healthcare & life sciences at Microsoft.

Microsoft’s Azure Large Instances emphasizes innovation, enabling migration of Epic EHR environments through joint testing and engineering.

Cloud-First Computing in Healthcare

Embracing a cloud-first computing model is crucial for healthcare providers, and Azure offers opportunities for agility, cost management, and risk reductions. Joseph Gimigliano, CTO at Mount Sinai, stresses the importance of partners who understand the criticality of patient care.

The integration of Microsoft Azure Healthcare with Epic clients marks a turning point in the digital evolution of healthcare on the cloud. It symbolizes a robust commitment to enhancing patient care through technological innovation. Feel free to share your thoughts on this new development in the comments section below.
