Since the initiation of their relationship in 2012, John Lewis and Google have continually explored innovative pathways to enhance the retail experience. “Investing in cutting-edge technology is not just a choice, it’s a necessity for a modern retailer like us,” says Nish Kankiwala, CEO at the John Lewis Partnership.

Personalizing the Retail Experience

In a bid to provide customers with more tailored and personalized experiences, the John Lewis and Google Cloud partnership will reach beyond traditional in-store services to digital platforms like JohnLewis.com, Waitrose.com, and its owned mobile apps.

Zak Mian, chief transformation and technology officer at the John Lewis Partnership, explains the magnitude of this collaboration, stating, “

“At the John Lewis Partnership, we’ve always been focused on finding better ways to do business. Today’s announcement marks a significant step in transforming our technology.”

The partnership will utilize Google’s cutting-edge AI and ML tools, ensuring that John Lewis’s workforce, known as Partners, are more efficient, spend more time focusing on customers, and better use data insights.

Customer-Centric Future

Looking ahead to 2024, the partnership is setting the stage for a pan-Partnership loyalty program. “Imagine a world where a customer can use an image scanning feature in their John Lewis App to show our Home Design Stylists a room they’re looking to furnish,” Mian adds, emphasizing the customer-centric focus.
