The technology industry is in for a fascinating change as VMware, AMD, Samsung, and the RISC-V Keystone community unite to simplify the adoption of confidential computing. This strategic alliance will pave the way for more secure multi-cloud deployments and machine learning workloads.

VMware’s Collaboration with Industry Leaders on Confidential Computing

In a significant move, VMware has joined hands with AMD, Samsung, and members of the RISC-V Keystone community to accelerate the development and operations of confidential computing applications.

“Confidential Computing has the potential to secure workloads no matter where they run including in multi-cloud and edge settings,” said Kit Colbert, CTO, VMware. He expressed hope that the collective efforts would ease the adoption of confidential computing for ISVs, enterprise customers, and Sovereign Cloud providers.

Ecosystem Support for the Certifier Framework

The Certifier Framework for Confidential Computing, a project that was developed and open-sourced by VMware, seeks to democratise confidential computing. By establishing a platform-independent API for creating and managing confidential computing applications, the project is poised to dismantle significant barriers to the technology’s adoption.

The Role of Confidential Computing in Multi-cloud Deployments

Confidential computing is based on a novel processor concept called a ‘trusted execution environment.’ This technology ensures the confidentiality and integrity of programs and data, even when deployed in multi-cloud environments or infrastructures operated by third parties.

The Certifier Framework

The Certifier Framework is transforming the development of secure cloud workloads, secret-keeping services, and privacy-preserving applications. This development is particularly crucial for emerging machine learning and “data economy” workloads that rely on sensitive data and models from multiple sources.

“This collaboration is critical for accelerating adoption of confidential computing and securing workloads in the cloud,” remarked Raghu Nambiar, corporate VP, Data Center Ecosystems and Solutions, AMD.

VMware Highlights at the Confidential Computing Summit 2023

VMware showcased the certifier’s capabilities at the Confidential Computing Summit 2023, indicative of their commitment to the future of multi-cloud security. Among the highlights were client/cloud confidential computing demos in compelling machine learning use cases.

In conclusion, the collaboration between VMware, AMD, Samsung, and the RISC-V community has the potential to revolutionize the future of confidential computing. It’s an exciting time in the tech industry as these key players work together to bring about a more secure computing future. Let us know your thoughts on this development in the comments below!
