Capital One’s New Role in FinOps
In a groundbreaking announcement, Capital One has taken the leap to become a Premier Member of the FinOps Foundation, further solidifying its commitment to advancing the practice and culture of financial operations in the cloud domain. This significant move marks an evolution in the Capital One FinOps Foundation partnership, pushing forward the frontiers of cloud optimization.
Anne Johnston’s Leadership and Vision
Capital One isn’t merely joining the ranks. Anne Johnston, VP of Cloud Cost & Engagement at Capital One, has been inducted into the FinOps Governing Board as a voting member. Her role will be pivotal in shaping the Foundation’s strategic direction. Furthermore, she has secured a position on the FOCUS project Steering Committee. Johnston remarked:
“We’re excited to join the FinOps community because of the wealth of thought leadership from across the industry. We’re excited to contribute to that thought leadership as well as learn from others. Additionally, there is a need to include critical cloud cost concepts into existing engineering curriculums in higher education, and I look forward to working with the FinOps Foundation to influence that outcome.”
FOCUS: A Game-changer for Cloud Cost
Capital One’s proactive engagement doesn’t stop there. Their Cloud Cost & Engagement team is already an active part of FOCUS, the FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification. Launched in May and overseen by the FinOps Foundation, FOCUS endeavors to establish a standardized blueprint for cloud cost, usage, and billing. With Johnston at the helm, we can anticipate even deeper engagement and collaboration between Capital One and the FinOps Foundation.
J.R. Storment on Capital One’s Contribution
J.R. Storment, Executive Director of the FinOps Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Capital One is both a major employer of software engineers and is years into a mature cloud FinOps practice. They are uniquely positioned to contribute to the FinOps Foundation’s best practices. We are thrilled to welcome Capital One as a Premier member and early adopter of FOCUS. Johnston brings deep experience as a cloud engineering leader and is a perfect fit to join the governing board.”
